Menies Beach
The location of Menies beach is 45km northwest of Chania, on the northeastern point of the Cape of Rodopou and the exit of “Fountas” gorge. It is a lovely secluded beach with pebbles and deep clear blue waters. As the winds blowing in the region do not affect the beach, it is one of the most popular Chania secret beaches and an ideal destination for relaxation, far away from crowds. At a distance of several kilometers there are no amenities at all, so make sure to bring along the essentials.
Kalogeros Beach
“Kalogeros” (Monk) is a wonderful beach with crystal clear waters and fine pebbles. It is located 57km south of Chania, 11km east of Sougia and 1km west of Agia Roumeli. The landscape is idyllic. Nudists prefer this beach, as it is quite isolated. There are a few trees and a cave where you can find shade. As there are not any shops close to the beach, make sure that you bring all the essentials with you.
Kyani Akti Beach
Situated in the Souda Bay and just 2 kilometres from Kalyves, lies the scenic sandy beach of Kyani Akti. It’s a long sandy beach, so it’s easy to find a secluded spot. It does have some facilities with food and drink available and facilities for swimming and sunbathing (sun beds, umbrellas). It is far enough away from the crowds to really relax and de-stress, but close enough to Kalyves Village with all the amenities you could want.
Marathi
Marathi is a small cove about 14 km east of Chania Town. This cove has crystal water and is protected by strong winds. Marathi is an organized beach particularly popular among the locals. Its shallow water is ideal for families and kids. Along the beach, you will find nice taverns that serve fresh fish and some hotels. The small port offers shelter for fishing and excursions boats.
Seitan Limania
Stefanou beach also know as Seitan Limania (i.e. satan harbours), is 22km northeast of Chania and 2km east of the village Chordaki, at the east side of Akrotiri Cape. The wider area is named Seitan Limania, after the wild landscape, the steep cliffs and the strong sea streams which are considered dangerous. Here are situated three parallel narrow coves, well protected from the waves. The beach was once only accessible by boat but there is now a rocky downhill path that leads onto the untouched shores. Take care during the hike down as it is steep!
Koutalas beach
The beach Koutalas or Koutalis is located in Kokkino Chorio of the municipality of Apokoronas, at the tip of the cape Drapanos, which is about 27 km east of the city of Chania. The beach has no facilities, it is relatively undiscovered and it receives few visitors, mainly due to its rocky seabed. However, the waters are crystal clear and shallow and you can spread your towel and enjoy the sunbath in peace at the hidden gem.
