Excursion to the Samaria Gorge

Samaria Gorge is classified as a national park, and is one of the most spectacular natural parks in Europe.

It is the largest gorge in Europe and contains rare species of flora and fauna, such as the Cretan wild goat as well as rare species of eagles and wild birds, which are all protected by international treaties.

The Long Way Route
Departure: 06:15am. First stop is the village of Omalos for breakfast/coffee. Embark on the crossing of Samaria Gorge on foot from Xyloskalo. After 5 hours, arrive as Agia Roumeli village. Here you can rest, swim or have something to eat. Departure from Agia Roumeli village and arrival in Sougia or Sfakia (depending on weather) after 45 min. Here a coach will be waiting for you for your return to the hotel.

The Lazy Way Route
Depart by coach in the morning to Xyloskalo and continue until Sougia village. There we board the ferry that will arrive right at the exit of the gorge at Agia Roumeli. Here you can swim or have something to eat. The boat departure from the village is at 16:00pm towards Sougia/Sfakia.
